petja ivanova is a multidisciplinary artist who is part of the board of HIAS health in the arts engaging herself in processbased realisations of how to improve quality time, making it come about poetically and nourishing for oneself and others.
She is handeling everyday life by incooperating fine tuning, aiming to allow a process unfold its beauty. Her methods range from the very conceptual to the logically applied.
Personal accounts on time, friendship and the possible meaning of art are here to follow:
i am preparing for the winter. the last time i did this with my cousins in the garage of my grandfather. we took a camping table and sat around it – peeling garlic, cutting carrots. we did it with our hands, we had a cup of beer and enjoyed each others company. when we filled the big jars with vinegar and water, my cousins boyfriend came along to close the lids. that was a masculine job. then my other cousins son brought some bread, sausage and home made paprika preserve, and we had dinner. our gathering for preservation purposes expanded. before we were done turning the jars up and down, my boyfriend and his friend returned from a field trip. the preservation turned into a hang out with friends. friendship. Aristotel described friendship as not feeling time passing when you are together. I can relate to that. with lisa sometimes i felt like floating above ground. it did not matter what time it was. friendship is our ally in the quest to save time from disappearing. and to save time from being wasted by appointments and the pace of the busiest – we have to create situations for friendship. circumstances for friendship are circumstances for satisfaction.
preservation is one strategy/technique to live with the time that surrounds you. it is opposite to consumerist and divisive time which to some extent is actually a virtual time. like we know the begriff virtuelles wasser – virtuelle zeit ist nicht nur die zeit, die wir I’m internet verbringen weder die zeit die dort durch raum produziert wird. virtual time is physically, outside of you, not happening. virtual time has no reference to your place in the world – geographically and to the spot of the sun. virtual time is a freedom to get into the paradox of choice.
concentration living. what is live. live is basically boring- eating, cleaning. socializing. life is in our everyday action. actually not much is happening outside of it. taking care of one’s everyday (needs) is the best way to live in the present tense. consumerist time though aims at eliminating the everyday – blaming the ordinary to be peasantry. through consumption you have the possibility to experience something exceptional at any time because you’re not bound to real limitations and to necessities. through having the possibility on the exceptional you tend to loose the soulfulness of the returning everyday real. returning activities set your place – stabilize your existence, form rituals, the source of art.
Petja has participated in the HIAS oasis at viennafair this october by sharing methods for the deceleration of time. She had manufactured soap from pigsfat with her relatives in bulgaria and brought the pieces over, sharing them out to smell and feel, take home a piece of goodness – produced with love, time and in community.
transformational realities delivered through design. Lauren Davies from heka lab incooperated absolute aesthetica for the application of hands on scent creation for ‘reigniting a dialogue about our relationship with nature and the materials we use’. the empowerement comes in high value materials such as copper, maple wood and borosilicate glass with herbal ingredients of choice. the desired flavour of the resulting cosmetics bring about the necessity of floral inclusion, making us reach back to nature, pick the given and source its offerings.
inspiration to conclude in physical amelioration through the use of techniques for body and mind

there seems to be a craving to deal with worlds in its simplicity. for this simplicity is beauty paired with logic and the outcome as organic as it gets. experiments featured in the arts are illustrations of the given- dreamy works of scientific truth to be seen now at palais de tokyo in paris, prolongued until the 20th of mai 2013
whether its a magnets’ force creating storms of colours or cause and effect of chemical means in composition, hicham berrada conquered this ground by screening the process. video as an observational tool is art due to his very regard and curation of chemical effects. striking aesthetics underpinned by scientific relevance. the joy of exploration results in an alchemical theater
He donated his body. involuntary death. execution. yet this is another story. for now, slice by slice Joseph Paul Jernigan corpse became the first comprehensive, nondigital map of the human body.
studio tobias klein turned the re-composition in an interactive chrystal nursery. yes, slice by slice
one can go online and type in the desired level of heat causing humidity for the chrystal to grow. crystals on bones, forming missing organs – to result in a full corpse in fact
it is empowering to have effect, to contribute and decide on your very own slice.. going online making things grow. its nice to know that Jernigan’s corpse will turn into a body again, yet is this conceptual transformation not a bit blunt ?

canal de l ourq reaching north
for the bonlieu to come
below la petit ceinture, the track that was
traverse the river
towards buttes chaumont along rue de crimeé
through gates, on cobblestones, some steps to reach
a fortress of a wooden wonder stands in its height
its standing still
surrounded by houses, by gardens
small and delicate and rich
you are to enter below its carvings
into a single hall of width and depth
candles and all voices melting into calm
lean your forehead on the icon
kiss its surface
choose your rhyme – light a candle for the beloved , for their protection
let go for it and give it time
wear a headscarf for the entry and a skirt prolongued -for female
and for everyone, your hands exposed at all times inside, no hats
surface considerations to wear, to walk on, to experience. how to enrich our walking experience? the following examples are pointing out ways for play: re-designed pathways and footware are on the market
whether its for posture or feel the shoe industry has caught up on the people’s behavioural lack of exercise and movement, suggesting to combine the daily with the useful. the futuristic products are set for form to result in function and are widely available by now.
the benefits described by the brands are evident, but if consideration and care for ones own body is inspired by it, so it be, its successfully raising some awareness
playing upon human conditioning and pushing for ways to re think urban planning recent cases of architectual propositions point a finger on important considerations concerning daily paths and general challenges of self transportation
atelier zündel cristea won the 3rd prize in a competition for yet another bridge for paris’ seine. their inflatable construct consists of tubes in crossings and trampoline circles to bounce ahead
meanwhile in the nikola lenivets forest in russia, the annual festival archstoyanie presents a 50 meter long trampoline road cutting through the nature. the installation is designed by the estonian architects salto who ironically called their rubber pathway ‘fast track’ and describe it as ‘an attempt to create intelligent infrastructure that is emotional and corresponds to the local context. It gives the user a different experience of moving and percieving the environment.’
rethinking infrastructure western world can afford this
can we arrive at a different point using other means then pavements ? it feels spoiled to be surpassing the functional asphalt road due to philosophical questions
yet these designs are really meant for a public- whether to be crossing the seine or a forest its initially about altering our physical sensation and conceptual flexibility- which is needed due to the dangers of comfort driven stagnation
what are roads, how do i behave on roads..how would i behave on trampolines, can i bounce at all etc etc
surely no insurance company would cover this, but one realised project of that sort manages to raise a point by giving it a try in humble seclusion- for now only to be experienced in an art context
